A new
Samsung mid-range phone is now available in Australia. The Galaxy J5 Prime,
which was previously sold exclusively in India, is now currently offered to
Australian consumers. Samsung’s latest mid-range handset was initially launched
on Sept. 19.
The Samsung
Galaxy J5 Prime is powered by a Cortex-A53 quad-core chipset that clocks in at
1.4 GHz. The phone has a 16 GB internal storage capacity with 2 GB of RAM. It
has a dedicated external microSD memory slot that is expandable up to 256 GB.
The Samsung handset
features a 5.0-inch IPS LCD HD display with a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and
294 PPI pixel density. The phone’s Gorilla Glass screen, which features an
almost 70 percent screen-to-body ratio, is backed by a metal body frame. The
Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime runs on Android’s older operating system, Marshmallow
6.0.1.
The primary
shooter of the Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime is a 13 MP autofocus camera with LED
flash. The main shooter has face detection, geo-tagging, panorama, touch focus
and HDR features. It can produce FHD videos with 1920 x 1080 resolutions at 30
frames per second. The secondary selfie snapper is a 5MP f/2.2 camera.
The Galaxy
J5 Prime smartphone comes with fingerprint, accelerometer and proximity
sensors. The device can be unlocked with ease using the fingerprint scanner.
The phone weighs about 5 ounces and is equipped with a loudspeaker and a 3.5 mm
headphone jack. It has Bluetooth capabilities as well.
The Samsung
Galaxy J5 Prime’s non-removable Li-Ion 2,400 mAh battery can provide 16 hours
of talk time or up to 54 hours of music playback. The phone boasts of its two
energy-efficient options: the Power Saving Mode, which restricts background
performance of apps and data, and the Ultra Power Saving Mode, which turns the
display black and white with access to only the essential apps.
The Samsung
Galaxy J5 Prime is available in two colours: black and gold. The phone is
readily available in Australia and comes with a $399 price tag.
